Understanding Psychological Assessments

At Muse Psychology, we offer a range of Psychological Assessments to help identify your child's strengths and needs. These assessments are also used to give families the confidence to make educational choices and ensure the correct supports are in place for the child and their learning environment.

Each assessment is tailored to uncover your child’s unique strengths, challenges, and needs. We aim to deliver a detailed, easy-to-understand report—including practical recommendations for teachers, tutors, and parents/carers—within 2 to 3 weeks of the final appointment.

Below is an overview of the different assessments available at Muse Psychology.

Autism Assessment - Autism ASD diagnosis requires a comprehensive assessment using a range of assessment tools, observations, and interview methods.

ADHD Assessment - This assessment involves interviews, observation, cognitive assessment, review of school reports, and questionnaires completed by the child (8+), parents/carers and teachers who regularly interact with your child.

Cognitive Assessment - Also known as an IQ test, it helps to identify a child’s potential for learning and their preferred learning style. This assessment helps to identify the child's cognitive strengths and challenges.

Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) - Difficulties and impairments with reading, writing, and written expression are all tested at Muse Psychology. SLD testing involves a combination of cognitive and educational assessments.

Developmental Assessment - This comprehensive assessment helps you to understand if your child is meeting their developmental milestones and daily living activities in comparison to same aged peers.

Educational Assessment - Known as Educational Assessment. This assessment aims to measure how a child is progressing in a range of academic areas in comparison to same aged peers.

Behavioural Assessment - This assessment is a comprehensive evaluation to identify if your child may present with mood issues, emotional regulation issues, Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), and Conduct Disorder. This assessment is aiming to identify the challenging behaviour and ascertain areas for targeted support.
